Service dog training involves teaching dogs specific skills to assist individuals with disabilities, including physical, sensory, psychiatric, or developmental challenges.
1) Basic Obedience: Dogs must learn fundamental commands such as sit, stay, come, and heel to ensure they respond well to their handlers.
2) Task Training: Service dogs are trained to perform specific tasks related to their handler’s needs. This may include retrieving items, guiding individuals with visual impairments, alerting to medical conditions (like seizures or low blood sugar), or providing emotional support for anxiety and PTSD..
3) Socialization: Dogs are exposed to various environments, people, and other animals to ensure they can remain calm and focused in different situations.
4) Public Access Training: Service dogs are trained to behave appropriately in public spaces. This includes ignoring distractions, maintaining focus on their handler, and demonstrating good manners.
5) Handler Training: Owners or handlers also undergo training to learn how to communicate effectively with their service dogs and handle them in various situations.
Training can vary in duration and complexity, often taking months to fully prepare the dog for their role. Successful service dogs are well-socialized, reliable, and able to perform their tasks consistently.
Paws on Command has been awesome for my dog. They really helped improve my dog's behavior, making him more obedient and well-mannered. Now, I feel safe leaving my dog with them because I know he's in good hands and a caring environment. It's been a great experience for both of us!
Josiah is a very respectful and responsible young man. Every time I take Max to Paws on Command he never wants to leave. He loves all the space out back to run and play with the other dogs. Josiah pays great attention to detail and he makes sure every dog gets the same care. I would recommend Josiah to anyone that is looking for a dog trainer, as he has helped me out more than once.
